Paestum and mozzarella factory
The city of paestum was founded by greeks around the year 600 b.c. with name of Poseidonia then by year 270 b.c. the city harbour a latin colony and from that moment it gets the name of Paestum.
Three great temples, from different eras, temple of cerere, temple of neptune and sanctuary of hera are all perfectly preserved and this makes the site extremely interesting.
Neverthless paestum can offer to its visitors not only the magneficent temples but also many treasures brought to light during excavations which began early 1900 and one of the most famous piece of art is the "tomb of the diver". This incredible painting who is a testimony of ancient magna grecia was found in 1968. The tomb together with many others beautiful and precious treasures are kept in the museum of paestum that’s why you can’t leave the site without seeing it.
The museum is located very close the archaeological site so just right across the street.
